Contribution of Indian and Western Linguists to Hindi Linguistics: A Comparative Study

Abstract

Indian and Western linguists have both made significant contributions to the development of Hindi linguistics. Indian linguists have primarily emphasized the historical, cultural, and practical aspects of the Hindi language, while Western linguists have focused on its structural, scientific, and cognitive dimensions. This research paper presents a detailed comparative analysis of the historical and theoretical contributions of both Indian and Western linguistic traditions in the field of Hindi linguistics. The central objective of this study is to examine the philosophical foundations, methodological approaches, and their influence on various levels of Hindi—phonetics, morphology, syntax, and sociolinguistic context. The findings indicate that the Indian linguistic tradition provided a strong indigenous foundation for understanding the structure of Hindi, whereas the Western tradition enriched it with global theoretical frameworks and descriptive methodologies. The paper concludes that the overall growth of Hindi linguistics is the result of an ongoing dialogue and synthesis between these two traditions, rather than the exclusive achievement of either one. This study offers a comparative perspective on the contributions of Indian and Western linguists and enhances the understanding of the evolution and enrichment of Hindi linguistics.

Abstract in Hindi Language: हिंदी भाषा विज्ञान के विकास में भारतीय और पाश्चात्य (पश्चिमी) भाषावैज्ञानिकोंने महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया है। भारतीय भाषावैज्ञानिकों ने हिंदी के ऐतिहासिक, सांस्कृतिक और व्यावहारिक पक्षों पर जोर दिया है, जबकि पाश्चात्य भाषावैज्ञानिकों ने भाषा के संरचनात्मक, वैज्ञानिक और मानसिक पक्षों को प्रमुखता दी है। यह शोधपत्र हिंदी भाषा विज्ञान के क्षेत्र में भारतीय एवं पाश्चात्य भाषावैज्ञानिक परम्पराओं के ऐतिहासिक एवं सैद्धान्तिक योगदान का गहन विश्लेषण प्रस्तुत करता है। शोध का केन्द्रीय उद्देश्य इन दोनों परम्पराओं के दार्शनिक आधार, पद्धतिगत उपागमों तथा हिंदी के विभिन्न स्तरों—ध्वनि, रूप, वाक्य-विन्यास, एवं सामाजिक संदर्भ—पर उनके प्रभाव की तुलनात्मक समीक्षा करना है। शोध में पाया गया कि भारतीय परम्परा ने हिंदी की संरचनात्मक समझ हेतु एक सुदृढ़ स्वदेशी आधार प्रदान किया, जबकि पाश्चात्य परम्परा ने वैश्विक सैद्धान्तिक प्रतिमानों एवं वर्णनात्मक पद्धतियों से इसे समृद्ध किया। शोधपत्र इस निष्कर्ष पर पहुँचता है कि हिंदी भाषा विज्ञान का समग्र विकास इन दोनों ही परम्पराओं के पारस्परिक संवाद एवं समन्वय का परिणाम है, न कि किसी एक की एकाधिकारिक उपलब्धि। यह शोध लेख हिंदी भाषा विज्ञान में भारतीय और पाश्चात्य भाषावैज्ञानिकों के योगदान का तुलनात्मक अध्ययन प्रस्तुत करता है। यह अध्ययन हिंदी भाषा विज्ञान के विकास को समझने और उसे समृद्ध करने में मदद करता है।
