Abstract

Ruskin Bond, a prolific Indian writer, is inspired by the literature of British descent. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for his work of literature by the Indian Academy of Letters in 1962. For a list of some of his notable works, check out Blue Umbrella, A Flight of Pigeons and Funny Side Up. His work has been adapted into TV series and films. BBC's television series is based on his debut novel, The Room on The Roof. His short story, later extended into a novella, "Susanna's Seven Husbands" was adapted into a film as 7 Khoon Maaf and the film Junoon is inspired by his A Flight of Pigeons. The characters in the stories of Ruskin Bond are sometimes dark and uncanny and this paper is attempted to explore such characters.
